NHL insider reveals McDavid meeting with Oilers to reveal his contract intentions
Speaking on the newest edition of the 32 Thoughts Podcast, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman revealed there's an expected meeting between McDavid and the Oilers front office in the coming days to discuss the contract.
Reading the tea leaves here, I do think McDavid wants to give the Oilers clarity before the season begins, by either signing or explaining specifically why he wouldn't sign.
So, I think we're going to have an idea in the next day or two.

It's entirely unnerving that McDavid has reached this point, just days away from the regular season, without signing an extension with Edmonton. It will be a major failure if the Oilers aren't able to sign him before the season starts as was initially expected.
Although Oilers fans may be panicking and the rest of the NHL is watching, the most connected Oilers insiders reiterate that McDavid is most likely going to sign in Edmonton. Friedman also continued to say that he believes McDavid stays in Edmonton on a deal below $16M.
"I think if he does (sign), it'll to be short term. I'm not even convinced it's gonna be as long as four years, if he signs. I think it could be less than that. And as I've been saying all the way along, I think it's going to be lower than many people expect, below $16M.

In the next few days before the season opener on October 8th, more critical information should be revealed in the McDavid contract. Oilers fans will hope it's just putting pen to paper very soon.
