Top Oilers insider Bob Stauffer is hinting that the front office is making a major push to sign Connor McDavid in the next few days.
Earlier this week some rumours emerged of a potential announcement coming Monday at Rogers Place, but Stauffer has poured cold water on a contract being completed imminently. However, the Oilers front office is reaching a major moment.

During the Oilers final preseason broadcast, Oilers insider Bob Stauffer repeatedly suggested there would be a major push from the front office to get McDavid re-signed within the next 5 days, which would be before opening night on October 8th.
On a later appearance with the Donnie and Dhali show, Stauffer reiterated his strong belief that McDavid will sign, and even suggested it could happen before October 8th.
I do work directly for the club. I stated back during the summer that I was 102% convinced that Connor would sign some kind of extension, and I believe that is still going to come to fruition.

After the Oilers made 2 straight Stanley Cup Finals and knowing that McDavid isn't one to draw personal attention, many thought this contract would be signed and sealed well before this point. The fact that it even could drag into the regular season is startling.
The Oilers front office is right to make a major push to complete a deal in the next few days, and hopefully put this story to rest for the season.
