Oilers insider reveals Coach Knoblauch's new salary, rank among NHL coaches

According to analyst's reports, Oilers' head coach Kris Knoblauch has signed a contract extension that pays him a middle-of-the-pack salary, despite being onde the league's more-successful bench bosses.
Head Coach Kris Knoblauch signed a three-year extension this past week. It was announced Friday, but I believe the business had been done a bit prior to that. It is reported to be worth $2.75m annually. That puts him in the middle tier of NHL coach salaries. Newcomers are often around $1m, but a veteran guy like Mike Sullivan in New York makes $6.5m.

Oilers' coach one of best in the NHL for 2-years running
Though Kris may indeed be a newer head coach in the league, his record has far exceed that of many veteran coaches with greyer hair.
Kris Knoblauch took over as head coach of the Edmonton Oilers in November 2023, when the team was 3-9-1, and guided them to a 46-18-5 record and a .703 winning percentage that season.
He has posted a 94-47-10 record since taking over Edmonton in 2023-24, and 29-19 in the playoffs, with back-to-back Stanley Cup Finals appearances, and no indication that he's slowing down.
You can argue that only Paul Maurice, whose Panthers have actually won the Cup these last two-seasons, deserves more recognition and acclaim than Kris Knoblauch.
In fact, Stan Bowman, who is entering his second year in Edmonton, has sung the praises of Knoblauch and said this of his head coach:
«I don't think he gets enough recognition for the way that he's managed this group through this season. I think Kris has done a fantastic job."
Analyst David Staples also shared his thoughts on Kris Knoblauch in a recent article:
"He is under-rated as a coach because his teams have yet to win the Cup, he's coaching two major superstars in McDavid and Draisaitl and he's a genuinely humble, soft-spoken coach...I've never once heard him throw a player under the bus. He's the ultimate in building up players to get them to play better. It's working so far."
