Adding scoring depth to the lineup is not such a bad idea, if Chicago is willing to trade the twenty-three year old Lukas Reichel for a late-round draft pick, which is what Insider Elliotte Friedman seems to believe he's worth in trade.
In fact, it was the current Oilers' GM that picked Reichel 17th overall in the 2020 draft, when he was the Hawks' GM. Reichel, however, has not fit into Chicago's system the last two years; they don't have a place in their lineup for him.
He may have just lost his confidence, and needs a fresh start on a team like the Oilers.
Of course, Stan Bowman has proven to be a competent GM in his years in the NHL and has done good work with Edmonton, trading for Ty Emberson and Vasily Podkolzin, dealing for Jake Walman, acquiring goalie Connor Ingram for very little, and replenishing the prospect pool, to mention only a few of his moves.
There is no reason to question Bowman's decision to acquire Lukas Reichel, should he decide to make the deal.
Lukas Reichel headed for the Winter Olympics in Milan, Italy
Though the GM of Team Germany has not been announced, he clearly believes Lukas Reichel is good enough to represent his country at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
In fact, Reichel was one of the first three forward names picked, along with Leon Draisaitl and Tim Stutzle. Clearly, others believe Lukas can still compete at the highest levels.
«Clearly rushed to the league," said an NHL pro scout. "He'll get a second chance. He has enough skill and smarts."
