Top Oilers insider addresses rumours of major announcement coming

Earlier this week, Oilers sports radio host Kevin Karius revealed that his event in the media room of Rogers Place was postponed due to an upcoming event on Monday. The simple piece of info that the media room is booked has Oilers fans believing it's McDavid news.

The rumours surrounding the potential announcement on Monday reached Oilers insider Bob Stauffer, who addressed the situation during the last preseason game broadcast.

Oilers fan Kevin McCurdy relayed Stauffer's report, pouring cold water on the usage of the Hall of Fame room on Monday. According to Stauffer, the Oilers are just undertaking some cleaning at Rogers Place before the season begins.

Stauffer qualified that doesn't mean a signing won't occur in the next few days, but unfortunately for now, there's no imminent contract with Connor McDavid.

While Oilers insiders remain extremely confident McDavid will re-sign to stay in Edmonton, waiting this long and entering the regular season would certainly be uncomfortable.

The front office would've wanted him signed earlier, fans want to know McDavid is staying, and the team will hear it too - through chants from opposing fans and constant media questions.

The NHL is now just less than a week away from puck drop on the regular season on October 8th. Hopefully the Oilers do finalize a contract in the next few days, or this could become even more of a story for the entire NHL.
