Oilers organization appears to be preparing major announcement this week

The reasons are still unknown, but the Edmonton Oilers organization is reportedly planning an announcement and media availability this coming Monday.
Fans will be hoping this kind of event will be for Connor McDavid - and it very well could be. However, there's also a number of other Oilers who need contract extensions, including Coach Kris Knoblauch.

Edmonton radio host Kevin Karius revealed on his show this morning that he had an event booked in the Hall of Fame room at Rogers Place, but the organization pushed him back to Tuesday.
«I was supposed to MC a gig Monday in the Oilers Hall of Fame room, and they pushed it to Tuesday now.
So, I don't know, I'm not saying anything that's going to happen here, but I'm just saying that that's the truth of an event that's going on Tuesday in the Hall of Fame room that was supposed to be on Monday.

Presumably the organization is planning to use the room themselves, which has been used for major Oilers announcements in the past.
Just the fact that the room is reportedly booked for usage on Monday morning has Oilers fans excited for some upcoming news.
The event will be just 2 days before the regular season, and the organization would clearly love to get McDavid signed before the beginning of the year. When he does sign, it will be a major media event like this.
Interestingly, NHL insider Frank Seravalli recently raised the note that October 6th would be the final day to file contracts before the league's new CBA rules kick in. Perhaps that date does motivate some deals being completed.
On the other hand, it could very well be for another contract extension for Walman, Ekholm, Coach Knoblauch - or a few of them. For now, Oilers fans can just wait and hope it's for the biggest news.
