The Edmonton Oilers will be turning to Stuart Skinner again for Game 3 against the Vegas Golden Knights tonight after Calvin Pickard has been ruled out with injury.
Stuart Skinner is taking a direct approach to getting back in the net, owning that he hasn't been good enough and saying that he's improved through recent practice.
Oilers goalie Calvin Pickard ruled day to day after Hertl fall
The Edmonton Oilers have officially ruled Pickard as day-to-day, and have not disclosed the exact nature of the injury. Pickard seemed to get hurt after Vegas forward
Tomas Hertl fell on him.
According to sports doctor Harjas Grewal on social media, the injury could be a serious hindrance to Pickard's actual ability for the rest of the playoffs.
Grewal believes Pickard twisted his shin, putting him at risk for a meniscus tear. He projects that he could still be available with treatment, but wouldn't be at 100%. Another issue could still be possible too.
In the playoffs, we're unlikely to get any official information regarding an injury to a key player like a goaltender.
Olivier Rodrigue will likely be backing up Skinner tonight, and the Oilers will hope they don't have to play their AHL prospect.
Pickard has stepped up for the Oilers when they've needed it the most. He provided a stable backing to the team when Skinner faltered, and especially dialled up his play late in games.
Now, Stuart Skinner has to pick up his goalie tandem mate and his team. Skinner simply has to improve from his .810 save percentage, and find a way to make an extra save that keeps the Oilers in game.
