This season for Edmonton Oilers defenseman Evan Bouchard has been a roller coaster when it comes to his play as he has been involved with several goals against on giveaways but has given great offense in clutch performances during the playoffs.
Edmonton Oilers reporter Jason Gregor wonders which Evan Bouchard will show in this round of the playoffs as the Oilers are set to play Game 2 against the Vegas Golden Knights.
Giveaways and clutch play has been Bouchard's season
Bouchard had performed well during last year's season and playoffs which led him to a breakout year has he played 81 games last season, scoring 18 goals with 64 assists for 82 points and was a + 34 with 32 penalty minutes.
He provided great play and key moments during last year's playoffs which led many people to believe but he warrants a massive pay increase when his contract comes to an end at the end of this year.
This season, his numbers dropped even though he had played one more game scoring 14 goals with 53 assists for 67 points and was a + 14.
He has had good offensive through seven games in the playoffs and scoring four goals with 9 points but has led to several goals against during the LA Kings series and against the Golden Knights.
His game is certainly changed and many are wondering which Evan Bouchard will show as this series carries on.
Oilers have interesting choice for Bouchard's next contract
The organization is facing an interesting choice as Bouchard is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season and his numbers have been widely reported between 8.5 million per season all the way up to $11 million per season.
With two different years and two different outcomes, the team will need to decide whether his inconsistent defensive play but exceptional offense in the playoffs means a large paycheck for the long term.
Oilers fans will wait and see how their team performs as Game 2 is to begin on May 8th at 9:30 PM eastern in T-Mobile Arena.
