It was announced that Edmonton Oilers star defenseman Evan Bouchard is now the second all time defensemen leaders in points per game during the postseason right behind Boston Bruins legend Bobby Orr.
Bouchard now holds a point per game of 1.13 which is just behind or who stands at 1.24. This stat has a chance to be broken by Bouchard as he is only 25 years old and has many years ahead in his career.
Bouchard set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer
These stats along with his general body of work will factor in his next contract as he will become an unrestricted free agent after this season comes to an end. This year, his numbers have declined compared to last season where he had 82 points in 81 games.
This season, he played 82 games but only had 67 points and was a + 14 compared to a + 34. Many fans and NHL pundits had revealed that Bouchard had struggled at times this year especially defending in his own end compared to last year.
Many have speculated that he will be looking for a contract worth at least $10 million per season as the Oilers continue to evaluate whether they're willing to pay him that kind of money or more considering they must re sign Oilers captain
Connor McDavid as his contract will come to an end after next season.
Oilers need Bouchard at his best in this year's playoffs
It's become clear that the Oilers took a hit when they lost defenseman
Mattias Ekholm to an injury which has kept him out of the first round.
This means that Bouchard will need to step up and improve his game more as he currently has played three games, scoring two goals with three assists for five points and the -1.
The team is trying to get back to even the series in Game 4 as the Kings currently lead 2-1 before the series switches back to Crypto.com Arena for Game 5.
It's been quite the series so far with wild swings in the scoreboard as both teams fight for either the lead or to storm back and take over which occur during game three with the Oilers taking the victory.
