The Edmonton Oilers will see an exciting debut in their minor league system today with the highly praised grinder forward Connor Clattenburg joining the Condors.
Edmonton Oilers bring Connor Clattenburg to debut with the AHL Bakersfield Condors
According to a release from the Condors today, Clattenburg has been assigned to the AHL and will enter the lineup for today's game.
Additionally,
recent NCAA signing Damien Carfagna signed a tryout contract, but isn't expected to play for the team yet. Carfagna is a smaller offensive defenceman who had an incredibly impressive season with Ohio State University.
For now though, the attention will be on the Oilers new power forward making his debut. Only 19 years old, Clattenburg's frame at 6'2 and 205 pounds gives him a chance to immediately compete against men - and he's known as a power forward.
Clattenburg called up to AHL after drawing major praise from coaches
In a recent poll from OHL coaches, Connor Clattenburg received mentions in multiple categories for Hardest Worker, Best Bodychecker, and Best Defensive Forward. Those are great traits for someone to grind their way to the NHL, and it's great to see Clattenburg play by them.
In 46 games with the Flint Firebirds last season, Clattenburg didn't exactly light up the scoresheet - only tallying 16 goals and 35 points. He added 108 penalty minutes though, and wasn't afraid to drop the gloves.
If he can improve his offensive play just a bit and continue his strong defensive and physical play, as well as his strong work ethic, Clattenburg may have a chance to become an NHLer.
