Corey Perry has emotional moments after finally reflecting on career and legacy with his son
Former Oiler and legendary NHL tough guy Patty Maroon has joined the TNT broadcast for the playoffs, and had an incredible interview with Corey Perry after the game.
Maroon asked Perry how he continues to bring this level of play at his age. Perry has 5 goals and 7 points through 10 playoff games, an insane level of production for a player his age and with his minutes.
MAROON: You're turning 40 in 4 days. It's pretty impressive to watch you do what you do in the playoffs, how do you keep doing it? I'm so impressed by it.
PERRY: I just come to the rink and have fun. This is what I was born to do. You know that, you've been there a long time with me. It's just about having fun and playing hard. You come to the rink, work hard, also do it with a smile on your face.
Not only that, but Perry is able to share this incredible stretch of hockey with his young son Griffin.
The veteran Oiler has brought his son around the team and rink through the year, passing on the experience to his boy. It's a special sight to see how much Perry's love for the game comes out in his family.
MAROON: Seeing you and Griff, what's that like? What's that mean to you knowing that he gets to watch his dad?
PERRY: It's awesome. He's at that age where he's starting to remember a lot of things and learn a lot of things. He watched every game, he's at pretty much every home game. It's special. I love having him around the rink, he's here on off days. He just loves the game of hockey as well. It's a special bond.
With all the experience Griffin Perry is getting hanging around his dad and the Oilers playoff runs, he may be a kid to watch out for in a draft about 15 years from now.
It's incredible to watch «the Worm» Corey Perry on the ice still agitating his opponents and being an effective skill player, while being an all-class person and leader off the ice with his teammates and family. The Oilers are so lucky to have Perry the veteran.
