Vancouver Canucks analysts and fans are beginning to view Kane's on and off-ice presence as a major issue for the team, and a mistake to trade for him.

Through the first 20 games of the season, the Canucks were playing Kane at a shocking rate, with him ranking 3rd in the NHL in 5v5 ice time behind McDavid and Draisaitl. Now, things are starting to turn for the worse for Kane.

»Can't stand the guy»: Canucks analysts rail against ex-Oiler Evander Kane

After the team's last loss to the Calgary Flames, Canucks analysts went off about Kane's play this season, and the decision to trade for him in the first place.
An old winger with questionable character and hockey IQ, the latter of which - actually both, were on display. Unsportsmanlike penalty, you got shots on goal but I've never seen a guy hit more goalie logos in my life.

The fans can't stand that guy. Not only does he not carry himself in a way a lot of people like, he's not even good. He's not good anymore. His career is nearly done.
Against the Flames Coach Adam Foote finally sent a message and demoted Kane to the 3rd line, resulting in his lowest ice time of this month. In 23 games this year, Kane has 11 points and a -6 rating.
The Canucks are in a bad spot now at second last in the Pacific Division, but their collapse has started far before and for more reasons than just Evander Kane - and the analysts did qualify that.
But adding a 34 year old Evander Kane to a struggling team, coming off a major injury last season, and expecting him to be a major factor was a major miss by Canucks management. In the last two seasons he was most effective as a depth player for the Oilers, and even then he had problems with turnovers.
As for off-ice issues, those can be brought out more by struggling teams. Like JT Miller, Kane makes your team better when they're good, and can be a detractor when they're struggling.
Either way, the Canucks know where they're headed now. NHL insiders have reported that the team has put out a notice that all veteran players are available for trade, which would include Kane. His stint with his hometown team might be very short lived.
