Viktor Arvidsson's time with the Edmonton Oilers didn't go nearly as well as either party hoped, but the player is taking the blame himself for how the failed stint turned out.

The Oilers traded Arvidsson to the Boston Bruins on the opening day of free agency to clear up $4M of cap space off their books. After Arvidsson was a healthy scratch through most of the Cup Final, it was clear both sides wanted to move on.

Viktor Arvidsson takes the blame for failed stint in Edmonton, accepted trade for fresh start and more opportunity

In a new interview while joining the Boston Bruins, Arvidsson opened up about his disappointing time in Edmonton. The Swedish forward was willing to take a trade for more opportunity, but ultimately blamed himself for not being better.
I had a bit of a tough time last year with the opportunity.

There was a lot of factors that played into it, I think. I'm as responsible of it as everybody else was. I just look to myself to get better as a person and as a player. I truly believe that, and that's what I'm going to do.

- Viktor Arvidsson

Arvidsson got most of his even strength minutes alongside Leon Draisaitl, but his ice time definitely took a steep decline from previous years in his career. Arvidsson averaged 14:59 of ice time this year, which over 2 minutes less than his averages in the last three seasons. On top of that, he was getting no powerplay time.
With a Bruins team desperately looking for offensive complementary players, Arvidsson will be more needed in Boston than he was in Edmonton.
With reduced ice time and very little powerplay opportunities, Arvidsson's scoring took a major hit this season too. His production dropped to only 27 points in 67 games, his second worst year of his career by points per game.
At times Arvidsson showed flashes of his high-speed, skilled, tenacious style of play, but he simply failed to keep it up consistently. There were injury concerns mid-season too, which has been a common story in his career.
That being said, it's commendable to see Arvidsson own up to the disappointing stint in Edmonton, and eagerly accept a fresh start to better himself personally.
