Connor McDavid slams his stick, calls out Oilers effort after loss to New Jersey Devils
In the final moments of the game, McDavid was seen slamming his stick in frustration after the Devils scored a goal.
I think our whole team is a little bit out of synch. Not a lot of flow to our game, just not connected enough.
These two points still count. We didn't find a way to win or get better today. Maybe the second part's a little bit more important than the first. Results matter, but I didn't like that we didn't seem to get any better today.
- Connor McDavid
This is as direct as it gets for McDavid calling out his team for a subpar effort, and even the tactics the Oilers are running.
The entire team has struggled to produce offence at even strength, which is making it hard to win games early this season. Coach Knoblauch has shuffled every line so far in search of a solution.
McDavid's rightly calling out the team, but the Captain himself has also not been good enough so far. McDavid himself is passing up on far too many chances to shoot, and has made some defensive gaffes as well.
The Oilers will have another chance to right the ship tomorrow against the Detroit Red Wings.
