The Edmonton Oilers have a logjam of talented young players filling out their lineup, and may lose Noah Philp to waivers.

Oilers coach Knoblauch has begun to show his tendency to rely on veterans over younger players, and are now scratching Ike Howard in today's lineup. Noah Philp is also absent, now missing his 3rd straight game.

Edmonton Oilers reportedly worried to lose Noah Philp on waivers

On a recent appearance on the Kevin Karius show, NHL insider Frank Seravalli revealed that Philp is very likely to be claimed on waivers if the Oilers attempt to send him to the AHL.
The Oilers want to do everything they can to avoid putting Noah Philp on waivers because they think he's likely to be claimed, and I do too.

Now that Philp's been scratched for three straight games with players like Curtis Lazar entering the lineup over him, it looks like the coach is fading the young centreman.
The 27 year old right shot centreman Philp has been a great low-cost addition to the team, filling a valuable position as a 4th line centre - and could have a future on the team beyond this year.
He's looked great in the preseason games this year and the first 2 games of the regular season, even scoring his first NHL goal. Oilers analyst Allan Mitchell has also raised some disagreement with the scratching of Philp.
I am disappointed Noah Philp hasn't played recent games, his goal share runs counter to the indicators. It's a small sample, for me Philp is a strong option for multiple reasons. Scratching Adam Henrique or Kasperi Kapanen might raise a commotion, but Philp brings some things and he's a young bull.

- Allan Mitchell

Unfortunately, if Coach Knoblauch can't find a position for Philp in the lineup, he'll be sent down to the AHL and passed through waivers. With many teams looking for a quality young 4th line centre, Philp will be snatched away if the Oilers cut him.
