The NHL held their Board of Governors meetings this week, and Oilers owner Daryl Katz sent someone else in his place to represent Edmonton.
Oilers owner's son represents Edmonton at NHL meetings
Harrison Katz, Daryl's son, joined President Jeff Jackson to represent Edmonton at the meetings.
It's unknown if Daryl Katz was unable to attend for any reason, but it appears that his son Harrison could be in line to take over the family business of Katz Group Companies, including ownership of the Oilers.
Oilers fans may actually recognize Harrison Katz, who was frequently brought up to the NHL draft stage as a kid.
Harrison is now in his mid-20s, has recently earned a business degree from the University of Southern California, and is now pursuing a degree in Law. He'll soon have the qualifications to step into his father's role, and the experience of growing up with the Oilers.
Daryl Katz is still just 64 years old, but endured a severe health scare due to an infection in 2019. Eventually he'll be looking at retirement from his business duties.
The Oilers are fortunate to have engaged ownership who's willing to spend and prioritize the success of the team, and Harrison also appears to be a true fan of the team. It's very possible he could one day take over ownership responsibilities.
