Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl appear frustrated by lack of offence late vs New York Islanders
Although they've come away with some wins, the Oilers offence has been slow to start the season. First against
Dustin Wolf and
Thatcher Demko the Oilers seemed snakbitten, and now in the last 2 New York games the offence has slowed more.
As the offence fought to get back into last night's game against the Islanders, both McDavid and Draisaitl appeared frustrated on the bench. McDavid was restless while Draisaitl had an animated discussion with a teammate.
While the Oilers were pushing for a tie in the third period,
Darnell Nurse made an errant pass that lead to a turnover. Oilers fans heard a player immediately yell out in protest, with some believing it was McDavid or Draisaitl.
Heading into the game against the Islanders, the Oilers had the fewest even strength goals in the first few games of the season.
These scoring concerns stretch back to last year too, as
Zach Hyman and Nugent-Hopkins notably took steps back offensively.
The Oilers are usually known for their high-flying offence with their incredibly skilled lineup, but they're fighting to actually live u pro that identity now.
Coach Knoblauch needs to find a way to let this lineup unleash their full offensive potential, and the Oilers will be able to outscore any team in hockey.
