The Edmonton Oilers are looking to get back to the Stanley Cup Final and take care of unfinished business, but McDavid himself has entered another level.
Top NHL insiders have confirmed that
Connor McDavid may not sign a contract extension with the Oilers before the regular season. While he's unsigned for next year, he'll also be looking to put up a career year.
Connor McDavid puts NHL on notice for another 60 goal season
McDavid finished last season with 100 points in 67 games - an unreal scoring pace for anyone in the league, but not McDavid's best. Last season was actually his lowest scoring year by game since his rookie year.
I've had a lot of very good years, and I wouldn't categorize last season as one of those. I'm excited to see how good I can be, motivated to play hockey at the highest level at the Olympics, and to continue to push this group to winning.
I want to prove that scoring 50 or 60 is not a one-off. I've had 50 goals, and I've had 100 assists, and I like the goals a little bit more.»
- Connor McDavid
McDavid saw his goal total drop to only 26 last season after scoring 64 just a couple years ago. He clearly wants to adapt his approach to gear more towards scoring goals, which will obviously be a major boost to the Oilers.
Also after losing the Stanley Cup Final two years in a row, McDavid has reached «fanatical» levels of wanting to win. The Captain is taking a hard look at the entire roster for improvements, especially including himself.
Hopefully McDavid can live up to his goals for next season, and help propel the Oilers to a more successful year - and finally a Cup win.
