The Edmonton Oilers have a number of injured players soon returning to the NHL lineup, which will force the team to make a number of roster cuts.

In the coming days, the Oilers expect to get Jake Walman, Mattias Janmark, and Alex Regula back into the lineup with Zach Hyman a few weeks behind them. That means the Oilers will be forced into at least 3 tough roster decisions.

Insider reveals pecking order for which Oilers will be sent down

Speaking on the Kevin Karius show today, NHL insider Frank Seravalli revealed the order in which the Oilers expect to make their roster cuts.
Seravalli also indicated the Oilers could be open to trading two roster players: Mattias Janmark and Ty Emberson.
I think there's going to be a pecking order here. I think the first player likely to move is Isaac Howard because he's waiver-exempt. Then I'd say it's probably Curtis Lazar. And as you work through the permutations, the Oilers want to do everything they can to avoid putting Noah Philp on waivers because they think he's likely to be claimed, and I do too.

When Walman's healthy, Regula is going to be in and the odd man out will be Emberson. So when that happens: Do the Oilers look to make a trade and move Emberson? And the other part is I think they'd be open to moving Janmark in the right trade if that were to present itself.

- Frank Seravalli

Ike Howard has played very little and doesn't look entirely ready for a full time NHL role, so sending him down for development in the AHL is the easiest first roster cut for the Oilers.
When Janmark returns, the Oilers should consider trading him instead of losing Noah Philp on waivers. Philp has more of a future with this team as a 4th line centre, and Janmark has been struggling even in depth minutes with the Oilers.
On defence, moving Ty Emberson appears to be the best option for the Oilers. Clearing his $1.4M salary and keeping Stecher at only $788K is the economical decision for the team to save cap space for the deadline, and both players have the role of the 7th defenceman.
Unless more injuries occur, the Oilers will likely be making multiple roster cuts imminently as the injured players are cleared for return.
