The biggest concern for the Edmonton Oilers this season will be their goaltending, but Connor McDavid likes what he sees early on this year.
Connor McDavid sends obvious message on importance of goaltending to Oilers success
When Connor McDavid was asked about what helped the Oilers defensive play in the last 2 games, he specifically mentioned quality goaltending from
Stuart Skinner, who had a big turnaround vs the Rangers.
Everybody's bought in. We want to have a good start. Guys are bought in, checking hard, and we've had some good goaltending. Stu played great last night, he played really well.
- Connor McDavid
After the Oilers lost in a collapse in Game 1 off a brutal goal from Skinner, the concerns around goaltending were immediate revived.
With McDavid specifically mentioning Skinner as the difference in their following games, he's making it known that good goaltending is a necessity for them.
Oilers fans thought it was a clear message that McDavid mentioned goaltending as the difference, signalling to the team at large that they need to see a measurable improvement.
If Skinner can keep up the level of play he showed against the Rangers, and maintain a level of consistency above average, he'll stay in Edmonton as their starter. If not, they'll find an upgrade via trade before the playoffs.
