Ivan Provorov, a defenseman for the Philadelphia Flyers, chose not to wear a rainbow-colored warm-up jersey as part of his team's pride night tradition, which inspired many other teams to do the same.

Since then, a number of athletes and groups have voiced their disapproval with the situation and declared their support for the pride movement. In addition, despite a scheduled night that was advertised to supporters, several teams decided not to wear the pride jerseys together.

Even though the organization had only days earlier promoted that the event was still on minutes before puck drop, the Minnesota Wild team chose at the last minute not to wear their pride-themed jerseys tonight, according to Minnesota Wild reporter Michael Russo of The Athletic.
