Earlier today, it was revealed that the OHL coaches poll gave the honor of best defensive forward two Edmonton Oilers top prospect Sam O'Reilly of the London Knights.

O'Reilly was the last pick of the first round in 2024 after the Oilers made a trade with the Philadelphia Flyers and he is showing his promise as he's had the best year of his career with London so far.

O'Reilly compared to Patrice Bergeron of the Bruins

Several pundits and many hockey fans have compared O'Reilly two Bruins legendary defensive forward Patrice Bergeron who recently retired from the Boston Bruins.
O'Reilly's stat line is also impressive as this season he has played 62 games, scored 28 goals with 43 assists for 71 points and is a + 56 when it comes to his plus minus.
O'Reilly's OHL season has come to an end and now prepares for the playoffs and another shot at winning the OHL championship and hopefully a berth in the Memorial Cup.

Another Oilers prospect received some recognition for this poll

Aside O'Reilly, the Oilers also have another prospect that had some recognition
when it came to the coaches poll.
Oilers prospect center Connor Clattenburg was drafted by the Oilers in 2024 comma fifth round 160th overall.
He currently plays for the Flint firebirds and in the coaching poll he received three honours including hardest worker, best body checker and best defensive forward.
Over the past 46 games, he has scored sixteen goals, assisting in 19 and has 35 points and is a + 2 with 108 penalty minutes.
Both players are continuing to grow and develop with their respective teams and it's widely expected that they will be on the Oilers within the next couple of years.
In the meantime, players like O'Reilly will get themselves ready for another playoff run and continue the winning culture that London provides.
