Sportsnet has officially announced the Oilers TV broadcast crew for the second round against Vegas, and Jack Michaels will be back on the call.
Sportsnet announces Jack Michaels as Oilers playoff broadcaster in second round
Sportsnet released an official statement confirming their broadcast crews for the second round of the playoffs this morning, including Jack Michaels and
Louie DeBrusk back on the call for
the Edmonton Oilers.
Stauffer reported that Michaels could've been taken off the broadcast if the Winnipeg Jets were eliminated by the St. Louis Blues. That means John Bartlett would've been assigned to the Oilers series.
It's surprising change to see, as it's usually Harnaryan Singh serving as the National Broadcaster for Sportsnet. There's a hierarchy to the assignments of calls, and it seems Singh was bumped down.
Jack Michaels confirmed to be on the call for second round of Oilers playoffs
Regardless of the hierarchy of Sportsnet, Oilers fans will be happy to hear their longtime regional broadcaster on the call instead of a more unfamiliar voice.
Michaels brings an incredible amount of energy with his calls, and allows his fan side of the Oilers to colour the discussion. When the Oilers are dominating, there's no better voice than Michaels for a playoff call.
Hopefully Michaels will be able to stay on the call as long as possible on the road to the Stanley Cup Final. However, if they do get back all the way, it'll likely be Chris Cuthbert's crew taking on the call.
