Insider comments on Oilers reason to take Jack Campbell over Darcy Kuemper

A new report revealed that the Edmonton Oilers faced a decision between signing Jack Campbell or Kings goalie Darcy Kuemper during the 2022 offseason and revealed the reason why they went with Campbell.
According to Daniel Nugent Bowman, the Oilers simply liked Campbell more and it was revealed that Oilers goalie coach Dustin Schwartz was a key factor in the decision of going with Campbell over Kuemper.
Debate brews whether Schwartz was the reason for Campbell
According to the report, it was suggested that Schwartz watched hours and hours worth of video and studied both goaltenders and felt that Campbell was the better goaltender and that if the Oilers wanted they could have acquired Kuemper at the trade deadline of that year.
If Schwartz was the main reason or a key person in that decision, it's safe to say that the team will need to look elsewhere or another opinion on who the next goaltender will be going forward.
The goalie debate for the Oilers continues despite the team moving on to the second round to take on the Vegas Golden Knights as both Calvin Pickard and Stuart Skinner have produced less than stellar and sometimes downright awful numbers in these playoffs.
Many understand that the ice will continue to tighten and shrink and that goaltending will become more important as the playoffs continue which means both Pickard and Skinner will need to be far better than they've been.
Pickard will be starting for Oilers over the Golden Knights
The Oilers are set to play their first game in the second round and will likely give the net to Pickard as he helped finish off the Kings and save the Oilers season.
The Oilers will need to step up their physical game even though they have done well after several players have returned from injury including Evander Kane and Trent Frederic.
The team will need to find a way to tighten up defensively as the Golden Knights are considered one of the best defensive teams in the NHL and with 27 goals scored and 24 goals against during the first round, it's safe to say the team will need to find that balance.
The Oilers are set to begin on Tuesday May 6th in game time will be 10:00 PM eastern in T-Mobile Arena.
