Oilers provide first update on Draisaitl injury, Sports Doctor gives his opinion

Draisaitl took a number of awkward falls in last night's game, and was seen a few times obviously trying to play through discomfort before he was forced to leave the game.

Immediately after the game reporters asked Head Coach Kris Knoblauch about Draisaitl's condition, and he wasn't able to give a further update other than they'll evaluate more tomorrow.

It would be an incredibly tough blow to lose Draisaitl to an injury again, after he just missed a stretch of four games with another injury.

Not only is Draisaitl helping the Oilers to win games right now to secure home ice advantage, he's chasing down another MVP Trophy for his incredible year. If he misses much more time, Nathan MacKinnon will be adding more to his Hart Trophy case. The 29 year old Draisaitl has 52 goals and 54 assists in 71 games this year.

Sports Doctor Harjas Grewal of the University of BC often weighs in on sports injuries online, and focused on Draisaitl's injury last night.

Based on his multiple awkward falls and being slow to get up while in obvious discomfort, Grewal believes Draisaitl is suffering from a groin strain. The grades of his injury can vary, but day-to-day is the most likely recovery timeline.

Hopefully Draisaitl's injury is just a day to day problem that can get fully healed with some extra rest before playoffs. With the Oilers litany of injuries at the moment, getting healthy is clearly their only priority.
