In an effort to name a new goaltender for the Edmonton Oilers, Sportsnet Insider Elliotte Friedman went off-script to suggest former-Oiler Laurent Brossoit.

A guy I'm going to be curious about, and again, he's been hurt, but he doesn't necessarily cost you anything, is Brossoit. So Laurent Brossoit is coming back...I think he's going to be on a conditioning stint by next week at the latestThe thing about him is, he doesn't really cost you anything to go do it, aside from a pick... So I'm wondering if that's a guy that's now on Edmonton's radar.

Trade-talks heat up around Oilers' goalies
Over his career and in the seasons in which he's played at least 15 games, Brossoit's stats are impressive, with a GAA of just over 2.00, a SV% of over .900, and a record of 44-27-8.
Except, Laurent comes with several concerns. He hasn't played since April, 2024 because of injury.
When he has played, he's been a career back-up, having never dressed for more than 22 games in any given season.
And it's not only Elliotte Friedman that likes Brossoit for Edmonton. Tyler Yaremchuk of Oilersnation also thinks Edmonton should pursue him, saying the BC native comes at a reasonable cap hit, which Bowman needs to take into account.
Brossoit is in the final season of a two-year, $2.3M AAV contract with the Chicago Blackhawks.
Tyler Yaremchuck went on to say that Edmonton should be watching Brossoit very closely.
Of course, being on an expiring contract makes acquiring him a short-term solution only, and there is the possibility he won't be an upgrade on Skinner and/or Pickard.
Edmonton needs a true number one goalie for at least the next three years. With the cap restrictions the Oilers face, and the growing concerns around injuries and other roster-holes, it may not be as simple as a one-for-one goalie trade.
Then there is Connor Ingram to consider in Bakersfield. He may very well be the solution, but will need to be given an opportunity to prove his skill-level and his ability to withstand the pressure in Edmonton.
