The Edmonton Oilers have made a surprise roster move to call up prospect Connor Clattenburg to the NHL.
Additionally, the Oilers have placed forward
Noah Philp on the Long-Term Injured Reserve after being ruled out with an undisclosed injury earlier this week.
Edmonton Oilers add bruiser forward prospect before rematch vs. Panthers
Who knows how long he'll be around for, but Oilers fans will quickly come to love Connor Clattenburg. He's a player who clearly grew up watching Don Cherry's Rock'em Sock'em.
Just 20 years old, Clattenburg was drafted in the 5th round by the Oilers in 2024. Considering a controversial pick at the time for his low-level of offensive output, he started rising the prospect ranks for his physicality.
Clattenburg flies around the ice with speed as a wrecking ball. At 6'2 and 205 pounds, he's routinely pounding the opposition with body checks - and isn't afraid to drop the gloves. In 15 AHL games this season, he has just 2 points and 59 penalty minutes.
He's got a big personality, and all the intangibles you'd want in a teammate. Clattenburg is always giving it 100%, and will do anything, or fight anyone, for his teammates.
With a Stanley Cup rematch coming up tomorrow, Clattenburg will bring tons of energy to the Oilers 4th line with this physical play. Especially against a physical and pesty team like Florida, having an enforcer can be a major plus.
Hopefully the Oilers choose to play Clattenburg in tomorrow's game, and fans get to see what he can bring at the NHL level - and if he can stick around.
