On a goal that could have been the difference between a win and loss, Oilers' coach Kris Knoblauch opted not to challenge a potential offside.

"The player Paul has to touch the puck," Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch explained. "And I believe Kucherov did touch the blue line before the puck was touched."

The goal to which the coach referred was the tying goal by Tampa's Nick Paul late in the 3rd-period. Up to that point, Edmonton led the game 1-0, and for the most part, had dominated on excellent goaltending from their back-up Calvin Pickard.
But when things don't go your way, bounces and inches go against you, and the marginal calls too.
On the goal in question, Nick Paul carried the puck into the Oilers' d-zone, but his stick did not touch the puck until Kucherov had cleared the zone, placing the puck carrier onside.
It was a close call, and a game changing one too. The Oilers' coaches even took their one time-out to deliberate whether it was offside, but chose not to risk a failed challenge and an additional two-minute penalty.
The tying goal did prove costly and allowed the Lightening to complete its comeback, winning 2-1 on an overtime winner from Jake Guentzel.
Though the loss dropped the Oilers to 1-3-1 in their past five games, they did manage to get a very important point, one that was much needed, given how scarce they've been of late.
On the season, Edmonton has a record of 9-9-5 and 23 points and sit 6th in the Pacific, but are only 4-points out of 1st. Though 5-teams sit between them and first place, even a modest winning streak can put them in a favoured playoff position.
Again, the Oilers were only inches from winning the game in OT off of Roslovic's stick, no less; but when you're not getting the bounces, it's just the way it goes.
