The NHL trade deadline has passed, it appears the Edmonton Oilers fell short leaving $2,000,000 on the table as general manager Stan Bowman was unable to closeout another move.
It appeared the Oilers were involved in major moves but were unable to closeout the deals as Bowman explained after the deadline had moved on.
Oilers fans felt NHL deadline was underwhelming
After acquiring
Trent Frederic and
Max Jones from the Boston Bruins, the Oilers sent Jones and recently called up Cam Dineen back down to the Bakersfield condors which gave the Oilers more money to be used at the deadline.
Despite getting
Jake Walman from the San Jose Sharks, many people felt the team needed more upgrades especially in goaltending as the recent play of
Calvin Pickard and
Stuart Skinner has been worrisome at least.
The Oilers were also involved with attempting to acquire superstar
Mikko Rantanen who was traded to the Oilers division rival the Dallas Stars for
Logan Stankoven and four draft picks.
Bowman will be judged on how the Oilers perform in the playoffs
With the Oilers now set, general manager Bowman will be judged on how his team will fare this playoff.
It remains to be seen on how the team will fare now that other rivals have joined the arms race and have made their teams better which include the Colorado Avalanche, the Dallas Stars and even the Los Angeles Kings.
The Oilers will dial in for the remainder of the season as the stretch run is set to begin and the team would like to get back to its winning ways.
The Oilers next game will be at home on Saturday March 8th where they will face off against the newly acquired Mikko Rantanen and the Dallas Stars. Game time will be at 10:00 PM eastern.
