Oilers fans wonder what mist comes out of roof in Rogers Place
The Edmonton Oilers have one of the newer and nicer arenas across the entire NHL. Officially opened in September of 2016, it still holds up as a state of the art arena. It even includes a release of mist from the roof of the arena, something many fans have seen at games and wondered about. In a recent Reddit post, one fan brought up the question everyone's thinking: what on earth is it?
Edmonton has a drier climate in terms of humidity, which can have a number of poor effects on both the ice and the fans in attendance. The Rogers Place roof has essentially a massive humidifier, which helps the conditions of the ice, and makes the air more breathable in the building.
Although some fans are seeing it for the first time and wondering what it is, this isn't new. This feature has been installed since the Rogers Place opened in 2016, but it's worked wonders for the players. In 2016, one Oilers player described the ice quality in Edmonton as a three out of ten. Now in 2018, a new vote placed the Oilers ice as second in the league, just behind the Montreal Canadiens.
It's a cool feature, and a cool sight to see in the background for any fan attending an Oilers game. And hey, if you didn't know what it did, now you do.
