Oilers at risk of losing two promising players on waivers again in training camp

Last season, the Oilers were warned about losing promising prospect Raphael Lavoie on waivers. When they did try to send him down, the Vegas Golden Knights claimed the player.

According to a new report from Oilers analyst Allan Mitchell, the two players eligible for waivers that may have the highest likelihood of being claimed are Noah Philp and Alec Regula.

Mitchell believes Noah Philp may be the most likely player to become an NHL talent, because he has the best speed out of the group. All of Regula, Emberson, and Stecher are a touch below average skaters.

Of expected minor leaguers who will also be on waivers along with tons of players across the NHL, Roby Jarventie and James Hamblin stand out as the best skaters.

This may influence how the Oilers choose to shape their roster at the beginning of the season. If the Oilers believe in Philp as an NHLer but also know he'll he claimed on waivers, they may choose to keep him as the team's 13th forward - which could affect Curtis Lazar and other depth forwards.

One defenceman seems like they will surely be placed on waivers. By my judgment, it's not likely to be Alec Regula.

Oilers GM Stan Bowman claimed his former defenceman on waivers last year and kept him on the roster rehabbing through injury, insisting they believe in his game when healthy. After Emberson fell out of the lineup most often lasts year, he may be the most likely.

Some decisions may be delayed by Hyman's injury status at the beginning of the season, but there's a chance the Oilers will lose another quality player for nothing at the beginning of next year.
