Leon Draisaitl has been the MVP of the Edmonton Oilers this season, and in a new interview with Elliotte Friedman, he admitted that he believes he could win the Hart and Selke trophy this year.

While Connor McDavid has had a rare down season this year, Leon Draisaitl has been dominating every night from the Oilers' second line, and often with low-scoring linemates.

Leon Draisaitl thinks this is his best season yet, could win Hart and Selke Trophy

In an expansive and personal interview with Elliotte Friedman, Leon Draisaitl touched upon a few major themes of this season. None are bigger than recognizing the best season so far of his incredible career, in which he could win multiple awards.
FRIEDMAN: Has this been your best season?

DRAISAITL: Yeah. I would say it's been my most consistent. Certainly my best season in all facets of the game, on the defensive side and offensively, I think it's definitely been my best year.

FRIEDMAN: There's a player on another team who said, that obviously you got a good chance to win the Hart Trophy, but you might deserve to win the Selke too. Would that be important to you?

DRAISAITL: Almost more important than any other trophy at this point of time. There's been a lot of chat about when we were younger, we can't defend, and that reason we don't win is because Connor and I can't defend or don't defend. I think we've really changed that narrative around the league.

Leon Draisaitl also broke down some great moments from this year's 4 Nations Faceoff. Draisaitl gave plenty of props to Oilers captain Connor McDavid in a few incredible moments, and revealed that he was in fact cheering for Team Canada in the tourney.
DRAISAITL: At this moment, I know it's over. When [McDavid] has the puck and I see that gap, I know it's over. The second there's that pocket for him, his eyes light up and he's gone.

FRIEDMAN: I heard a rumour that you were rooting for Canada, is that true?

DRAISAITL: Yeah. I was yeah, I can be honest about that. I've lived in Canada for many years now, my future wife is Canadian. Connor's one of my best friends. I was certainly happy for them that they won.

It was an incredible and personable interview from Draisaitl reflecting on what can now accurately be called the best season of his career. If only it can be topped off with a Stanley Cup win, He'll be satisfied.
