The Edmonton Oilers have announced the team has signed top goalie prospect Samuel Jonsson to a three year entry level contract.
Edmonton Oilers come to terms with emerging goalie prospect Samuel Jonsson
The Oilers selected Jonsson in the 5th round of the 2022 Draft, and since then he's steadily progressed - and grown - into a very promising goaltender.
The 21 year old goalie appeared in 21 games this season, posting an incredible .922 save percentage, 1.88 goals against average, and six shutouts. It was a year well deserving of the Goalie of the Year award.
After a season to remember Samuel Jonsson wins Goalkeeper of the Year 2025!
In addition to his incredible performance this season, Samuel Jonsson has the body type of an NHL goalie. The Swedish goalie is a giant standing at 6'5, and considered a great asset for modern NHL goalies.
For his eye-popping stats and size, there's a chance that the 21 year old Jonsson has already surpassed 23 year old
Olivier Rodrigue as the Oilers' top goalie prospect.
With this contract signing, the Oilers will be able to bring over Jonsson to the AHL next season, and give him his first tests on smaller ice in North America.
Hopefully Jonsson will be able to keep up the momentum next year, and potentially even develop into the next starting goalie for the Edmonton Oilers.
