The Edmonton Oilers headed into this year's playoffs with a slew of question marks that left them as underdogs in the first round against the LA Kings, but that's changed now.
NHL officially announces Oilers and Vegas series with Edmonton as the favourites
As the Oilers beat the Kings and clinched their berth to the second round, the NHL officially announced the series and revealed the Oilers are considered the favourites to beat Vegas.
It's a little strange to see the team go from first round underdogs to favourites in the second round, but the NHL is beginning to correct their perception of the Edmonton Oilers.
The Oilers limped into the playoffs battling significant injuries since the 4 Nations Faceoff, and never really put it all together. Then the lineup got fully healthy and elevated their game in the first round for an incredible 4 straight wins, and put the NHL on notice.
One Oilers player to call it out directly was defenceman
Darnell Nurse. When asked about what was different about this series, Nurse chirped the media by saying they were expected to lose.
We came in an you guys all thought we were going to lose. That was different!

With their incredible comeback efforts, dominance from their superstars, and clutch performances from depth players, the Oilers have everything that fuelled their Stanley Cup run last season.
They have added experience this year, now they're looking to finish the job - and they're looking better than ever.
