Sidney Crosby has continued his hockey season this year by representing Team Canada at the IIHF World Championships, and had a hilarious moment with Macklin Celebrini.
It's great to see Crosby still playing even as the Penguins get eliminated, joining Canada at the IIHF for the first time since 2015. He's preparing for the Olympics himself, and also mentoring some young Canadians.
Sidney Crosby has hilarious moment with Macklin Celebrini, the same as Connor McDavid
According to some reporters covering Team Canada, Celebrini revealed that he initially greeted the Penguins captain as Mr. Crosby, but was quickly corrected to be Sid.
Hilariously, Connor McDavid actually said the same thing when meeting Sidney Crosby for the first time when he began breaking into the league 10 years ago. Crosby was dying laughing, and McDavid chuckled too.
Love to have Mr. Crosby there as well. I just want to make sure he understands my respect level.
- Connor McDavid
It's obviously a bit of a joke to refer to him as Mr. Crosby, but as McDavid said, it really does come from a place of reverence.
As young players breaking into the league, there was no one better to look up to than Sidney Crosby. His dominant career speaks for itself, to win 3 Stanley Cups, 2 Hart Trophies, 2 Art Ross Trophies, and the Order of Canada. If he wanted to be called Mister, all of Canada would comply!
It's also amazing to see what Celebrini has been able to do as an 18 year old this season, and how far his game has come since October this season. NHL analysts are now placing him as the best 18 year old in the Crosby era since Connor McDavid.
It was a wholesome moment for Crosby mentoring another young player, just like he's done with McDavid in passing. Crosby truly is Canadian hockey royalty.
