NHL insiders ranks Edmonton Oilers as underdogs again vs Dallas Stars in Conference Final
NHL analysts at the Athletic voted on their predictions for the Conference Finals, and over 77% of their staff picked the Dallas Stars to defeat the Edmonton Oilers.
Every analyst did agree on one thing - this won't be a short series. Nobody has picked this series to end in less than 6 games, but even then, over a third project Dallas to win in Game 6.
The Oilers came into the playoffs after a poor final stretch to the regular season, and nearly immediately flipped a switch to look like a dominant team again. They won 4 straight against a much improved Kings team, and dispatched of the Vegas Golden Knights in only 5 games - a very experienced two-way team.
Edmonton has proven themselves again as a Stanley Cup threat with their comeback wins, depth scoring, team defence, and even average goaltending. Of course too, Connor McDavid and
Leon Draisaitl leading the charge.
The Dallas Stars added
Mikko Rantanen, but the Oilers are a complete veteran team that's been knocking at the door for a while now. The full attention to detail in their game so far this playoffs will be very difficult for any team to beat, let alone to rank them as underdogs by a wide margin.
