Connor McDavid took a backseat to incredible depth contributions up and down the lineup in Round 2, but NHL analysts don't expect it to continue much longer.
The Oilers captain has been animated in a number of press conferences, including being asked about his decreasing ice time. McDavid is fully locked in, and ready to do anything to win.
Top NHL analyst predicts scoring explosion from Connor McDavid
The Oilers handled Vegas in only 5 games, but Connor McDavid only recorded 1 goal. In the last three games of the series, he only recorded 3 points which seems genuinely lower for McDavid in elimination games.
Through this the Oilers got meaningful goals down in their lineup, but McDavid has still been all over the net. According to NHL analyst Corey Sznajder, McDavid had 31 scoring chances in the second round - and a scoring explosion could be imminent.
McDavid's game isn't even necessarily creating scoring chances for himself, but for his teammates. Still, if he's around the net for 31 chances and only one fell in, much more will be on the way.
Connor McDavid still has 3 goals and 17 points through the Oilers 11 playoff games. It's still a torrid scoring pace, and he could once again earn a Conn Smythe if he keeps producing at that rate.
Leon Draisaitl's at 5 goals and 16 points, with his finishing talent still elite.
If the rest of the Oilers roster can continue their level of play, and McDavid himself can add several goals to the team totals - Edmonton will become an unstoppable force on their way back to win the first cup in the McDavid era.
