Top Oilers insider hints 5 contract extensions are close to complete

The Edmonton Oilers are reportedly closing in on 5 new contract extensions this month, according to insider Bob Stauffer.
Stauffer hinted earlier this month the Oilers are pursuing contract extensions for Jake Walman, Mattias Ekholm, and Brett Kulak - now there's a few more added to the list.
Edmonton Oilers expected to complete 5 contract extensions this month
According to insider Bob Stauffer on tonight's edition of OilersNow, contract extensions are expected for Vasily Podkolzin, Jake Walman, Mattias Ekholm, Connor McDavid, and Coach Kris Knoblauch by August 28th.
Let's say by August 28th, I can foresee a scenario where contract extensions are done on Podkolzin, Walman, Ekholm, and McDavid.
I'm not moving off it, Seravalli and myself both said, 100% that Connor would re-sign. All along nothing was happening before Leon's wedding, I can see some traction occurring after that.
Oh, and a potential extension for Kris Knobaluch as well.

Obviously, this is an extremely reassuring update coming from the most plugged-in insider for the Edmonton Oilers.
Keeping all of these core pieces, especially Connor McDavid but even Coach Knoblauch, lock in key pieces for the team to contend long term. McDavid will likely re-sign when he returns home from Draisaitl's wedding in France this weekend.
Vasily Podkolzin and Jake Walman are two players who could potentially have breakout seasons this year in Edmonton, making it smart to re-sign them now. Podkolzin is a young power forward showing a great fit on the 2nd line, and Jake Walman was incredibly effective after the trade deadline in Edmonton. Both could see career years this season.
Mattias Ekholm is a key piece to the Oilers, but obviously a depreciating asset at 35 years old with injury troubles. Still, he's a key piece forming the team's top blue line pair.
If the Oilers can lock up all 5 of these extensions within the next month, they'll be in a great position entering next season and beyond.
