The Edmonton Oilers will be working to re-sign Jake Walman and Mattias Ekholm to new contracts very soon, and could add another defence prospect according to Bob Stauffer.

Reports have surfaced earlier that the Oilers would be interested in re-signing Walman, but it's news the team will quickly re-sign the 35 year old Mattias Ekholm. In addition, Edmonton may be adding another promising prospect in Mac Gadowsky.

Oilers insider Bob Stauffer reveals team is pursuing two contract extensions, one college free agent

On tonight's edition of OilersNow, insider Bob Stauffer dropped the major updates on pursuing the three defence contracts, and added it's still guaranteed McDavid staying in Edmonton.
Let's just cut to the chase here. I still believe 100% that Connor McDavid will be extended in the off season by the Edmonton Oilers.

There's other players that might get signed before then to extensions. I'll just throw you a little bone. Mac Gadowsky, a 6'3, 200-pound left-shot defenseman, one of the top offensive defensemen in the NCAA last year as a sophomore. He has transferred to Penn State.

It wouldn't surprise me if the Oilers extended Matthias Ekholm, maybe even this summer. What about Brett Kulak? And then there's Jake Walman. He's going to get extended too.

- Bob Stauffer

Kulak seems to be a possibility as well, but Stauffer seems to have much more weight behind reports of Walman and Ekholm extensions.
Additionally, Mac Gadowsky is a player that's been on the Oilers' radar for a while. Don of Guy Gadowsky, an Edmonton native and longtime friend of Bob Stauffer, the Oilers have a clear in to sign the high end college defenceman. In 38 NCAA games last year, Gadowsky scored 42 points.
The Oilers defence group was just rated the best in the NHL by the Athletic, and if they lock up their blue line with new contract extensions, they'll be direct extending their contention window.
That'd be two great moves from the Oilers, and adding another prospect would be icing on the cake.
