Edmonton Oilers share emotional moment in locker room with Zach Hyman
After their conference final win,
Leon Draisaitl FaceTimed Zach Hyman and took him around the locker room to congratulate the team. Each Oiler player also told Hyman how much they loved and missed him.
There was only a brief look on Hyman through Draisaitl's phone, but he appeared shirtless and in his post-surgery recovery.
But it wasn't just one brief phone call that they kept Hyman around for - he also stuck around for the Oilers' player of the game photo and award. The teammates still kept Hyman around, showing just how much he means to the locker room.
On the ice, Hyman is an irreplaceable talent in the Oilers top six. He has a great ability to finish scoring chances in the slot, is a great physical presence, and two way player.
But off the ice, Hyman is just as important as a locker room leader for the Oilers. Last season after they lost in the Cup Final, Hyman was the first player to stand up and say they will be back. It stings now to see his passionate rallying cry, and know he won't be a part of it on the ice.
The Oilers don't need any more reasons to go win a Cup this season, but doing it for Zach Hyman will be one that closely resonates with the team. He's a huge loss, but it's great to see he's still sticking around the room even virtually, cheering them on.
