Dallas Stars Coach Pete DeBoer nearly blames entire series loss on one player
Stuart Skinner was shaky all season, but now has been lights-out since entering the starter's net vs Vegas. Jake Oettinger was a star, but now DeBoer says he got eaten alive against the Oilers.
Pete DeBoer rips Jake Oettinger after another series loss to Edmonton Oilers
Speaking to the media after the game, DeBoer said that he didn't want to put the blame on Oettinger, but their starter has been unplayable against the Oilers.
DeBoer's comments are so brutally direct, and come after a quick pull of their starter after just 2 shots. The Dallas coach was clearly at his wits' end with Oettinger, and could barely hold himself back.
Against the Oilers, Oettinger has a brutal 3.93 GAA and .893 save percentage. It's a far cry from his save percentage in the first two rounds at a stellar .919. Still, it's shocking to see a coach so openly criticize their goaltender.
There is a steep drop off in Oettinger's numbers that would certainly hurt the Stars chance of winning. The question would then be: how much of it is Oettinger's struggles, or is the lethal offence of the Edmonton Oilers too much to handle?
DeBoer did have to give credit to the Oilers too, admitting that this year's team is much better than last year.
The Dallas Stars will now have to take a hard look in the mirror with their team, and potentially just make amends with Oettinger after basically blaming the loss on him.
If they don't believe they can win with Oettinger, perhaps he hits the trade market this offseason - but way more likely is Pete DeBoer losing his job for his actions and comments this game.
