The Edmonton Oilers are about to head into the third period of a critical conference final elimination game, but fans may not be able to celebrate outside in the usual fashion.
Joshua Classen of CTV News Edmonton has released a sever thunderstorm warning including wind up to 100KM per hour, and has called on fans in the Moss Pit to seek shelter.
Oilers' Moss Pit gets rained out right before chance to clinch Cup Final
berth
Despite the calls to clear out the Moss Pit, Oilers fans stayed well through the second period intermission. The storm hasn't begun to hit just yet, but hopefully fans are able to find shelter before the worst of the storm begins.
Oilers fans would certainly stay through a bit of rain, but the major concern is a severe thunderstorm, and more importantly the high wind speeds. With all the commotion of fans at the Rogers Place, particularly younger fans, there could be flying debris that could cause injury.
Plenty of Oilers fans saw the warning themselves broadcasted as an emergency alert during the game.
Thankfully, the Oilers made the incredible gesture of allowing fans into the building for shelter in the foyer of Rogers Place. It was extremely impressive to see the organization step up with a quick plan for the situation once the evacuation order came.
It's definitely unfortunate that fans may not be able to celebrate another Stanley Cup berth in the Moss Pit, which is an awesome way for fans to unite for the biggest games. Hopefully, when the Oilers finally bring the Cup back to Canada the fans won't be rained out.
This story will be edited with more up to date details.
