The Oilers are showing signs of weakness in their last few games, but should soon see some reinforcements with Jake Walman and Tristan Jarry returning to the lineup.
Jarry sustained a lower-body injury in his third start with the Oilers, while Jake Walman suffered a bone fracture and hasn't played since November 20th. They're two major losses from the Oilers lineup, and should be able to help right the ship on their return.
Coach Knoblauch says Walman return is imminent, Jarry not far behind
Speaking to the media today after practice, Coach Knoblauch finally provided some positive injury news on both Walman and Jarry.
We anticipate [Walman] will be on the ice with the group as soon as tomorrow. If not then, a game day skate on Tuesday. That's when he's going to start skating with the team.
[Jarry's] been out taking shots, believe it was Thursday morning skate with some of the scratches. Jarry's played through a lot of injuries, we just want to make sure this is healed and not a reoccurring thing. So we're giving him that time, and within the next week, probably regular practices. Two weeks, maybe joining us full time.
It's good to hear that Walman is finally nearing a return to play, as the defence core has begun to struggle in his absence. Darnell Nurse had an abysmal game against the Flyers, and Regula has been drowning in top-4 minutes with him. With Walman back, hopefully the defence can stabilize a bit more.
Jarry's health will be a big factor for the Oilers moving forward, and especially in the playoffs. Edmonton shouldn't have full trust in either Pickard or Ingram assuming the starter's role in the playoffs - so protecting Jarry is a priority.
Nevertheless, with the Oilers getting two major veterans back into their lineup they should get a boost in their play. Hopefully, they're back at full strength soon.
