Insider Bob Stauffer is continuing to hint that the Oilers' top trade target this season is a right shot centreman from the Eastern Conference.

Stauffer has shared this report previously this season, and has now provided some additional information ruling out a player from the Columbus Blue Jackets. Now, his hints are becoming a little more clear.

Edmonton Oilers insider continues to hint at 3rd line centre target from Eastern Conference team

Speaking on yesterday's edition of OilersNow, Stauffer continued his reports hinting that the Oilers are targeting a big right shot centreman from an Eastern team that isn't ready to declare themselves sellers.
Additionally, Stauffer reported that the Oilers would likely have to take on a struggling player to trade Mangiapane.
«When I mentioned the potential third line center, I said from a team that doesn't see itself as a seller now, but might in a month from now, Columbus is lost. I think they need a different type of center if they're going to go that route. Possibly an Eastern Conference team.

I think the most logical scenario for Mangiapane - if he gets moved, it's probably going to be for another player that's challenged on another team.

- Bob Stauffer

The third line centre position is emerging as the biggest area of need for the Oilers. They're reluctant to break up their domiannt top line and drop Nugent-Hopkins to the 3rd line. Trent Frederic and Adam Henrique are not good enough to be relied upon in that role for the playoffs.
There's not that many big right shot centres in the Eastern Conference on teams outside of the top 3 in their divisions.
Two players that immediately stand out are Nicolas Roy of the Toronto Maple Leafs, and Cody Glass of the New York Rangers.
Both players are imposing physical presences currently playing third line minutes for their respective teams. Roy is producing a bit more offensively, and seems like the more attractive target.
We'll see in later reports if the Oilers are in fact pursuing these players, or could potentially aim a bit higher to really give themselves a usable third line.
