Moments ago, the Edmonton Oilers have announced that Zach Hyman will undergo surgery, and likely miss the rest of the NHL playoffs.

Hyman took a horrific hit from Stars forward Mason Marchment nowhere near the puck. One of the toughest players in the league, Hyman dropped his stick immediately and had his arms dangling while running down the tunnel.

Zach Hyman ruled out of all playoffs after hit from Mason Marchment

According to a new update today from Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch, Hyman will undergo surgery immediately and is done for the playoffs.
Last night, TSN insider Ryan Rishaug reported that Hyman was being hugged by Oilers players near the locker room. The worst news has now been confirmed, and it makes sense the players were so sympathetic.

Oilers lose irreplaceable forward Zach Hyman for rest of the playoffs

It's absolutely gutting news for the Edmonton Oilers to lose a key player like Zach Hyman for the rest of this series, and potentially the Stanley Cup Final - a probably rematch against the Florida Panthers.
Hyman is an irreplaceable player for the Oilers. The perfect top-six complimentary player, he brings scoring, physicality, defensive play, and the best work ethic in the NHL. In 14 playoffs games this year, Hyman has 11 points and leads all players in hits.
The NHL absolutely has to look at suspending Mason Marchment for this hit, which unbelievably went in penalized in game. The Stars season could only last one more game, but Marchment should not be playing in it.
The Oilers have some quality depth players that can step in to fill up the lineup - both Viktor Arvidsson and Jeff Skinner could be playing now. However, neither player will be able to deliver the impact Zach Hyman can.
