The hockey world is mourning the passing of Orca Wiesblatt, a 25 year old Calgary-native hockey player, and brother of Predators forward Ozzy Wiesblatt.

Not drafted by an NHL team, Orca Wiesblatt was continuing his hockey career with the Athens Rock Lobsters of the Federal Prospects Hockey League last year. Orca's team announced his passing on social media this morning.

25 year old Alberta native Orca Wiesblatt passes away

Wiesblatt had signed a contract to continue his career in the ECHL this season. The league released a statement explaining Wiesblatt passed in a car accident last weekend.
»The ECHL and its member teams mourn the loss and express their condolences to the family and friends of Orca Wiesblatt, who passed away in an automobile accident over the weekend at the age of 25.

Wiesblatt signed a contract with Allen for the 2025-26 season. Last season, he had 42 points (17g-25a) in 37 games with Athens of the Federal Prospects Hockey League. He made his pro debut with Pensacola of the SPHL in the 2023-24 season, skating in four games. Prior to turning pro, he spent four seasons in the Western Hockey League with Calgary, posting 104 points (27g-77a) in 138 games.

The Wiesblatt family story has been an inspiration to hockey parents for the deviation they've had to supporting each other through hardship. Kim White, a deaf single mother, moved to Calgary to work multiple jobs and allow her 4 sons to play hockey.
When first round draft pick Ozzy Wiesblatt made his NHL debut with the Predators last year, the Wiesblatt family story was featured by the NHL. Orca was involved with telling his family's story.
Orca Wiesblatt's passing is an absolute tragedy that will be felt by many hockey fans. Our sympathies go out to his family and loved ones.
