The Edmonton Oilers are finally back in the Stanley Cup Final, and ahead of Game 1 against the Panthers have revealed they're expecting Connor Brown to be cleared to play.
Oilers expected to scratch Jeff Skinner, Connor Brown will return to play Game 1
With the Oilers only expected to make the once change swapping Jeff Skinner for Connor Brown, otherwise the Oilers are likely to run the same iteration of their lineup from Game 5 against the Dallas Stars.
Getting Connor Brown back will be a huge boost to the Oilers bottom six, and will be a crucial asset especially on their penalty kill.
Jeff Skinner played well when called upon, scoring 2 points in 2 playoff games, but the Oilers need any margin of advantage on special teams to win this series. Brown's penalty killing and bottom six tenacity is essential for the Oilers.
Panthers grinder AJ Greer ruled out with injury before Game 1
On the Florida Panthers side, only AJ Greer has been ruled out of playing Game 1. That's positive news for the Panthers, who were also nursing injuries to
Eetu Luostarinen and
Anton Lundell.
Other than missing Greer, the Panthers lineup is remaining the same from their dominant series over Carolina.
Tonight's Game 1 on home ice will be crucial for the Edmonton Oilers. It would be nearly impossible for the Oilers to go down 0-3 again in the Cup Final to Florida, especially with the first two games on home ice. If they can get off to a good start, they can make this series different than last year.
