The biggest story of the NHL's season occurred today when Alexander Ovechkin passed Wayne Gretzky's all time career goals record, but the Oilers had a very curious reaction to it.
Edmonton Oilers are the only team not to congratulate Alexander Ovechkin on NHL goal record
The Washington Capitals posted an incredible collection of every team congratulating Ovechkin on his historic achievement, but notably, one team was missing - the Edmonton Oilers.

The Edmonton Oilers were actually active during the time of Ovechkin's announcement. The team's social media was posting details of roster moves, but didn't say anything about Ovechkin.
It could be that the Oilers are letting Gretzky be the organization's spokesperson on this event. He is their former player, and still a great representative of the team along with the NHL.
Still, it's bizarre that the Oilers were the absolute only team not to extend congratulations on social media to Ovechkin. Many NHL fans saw it as a salty reaction from the organization.
It's understandable for fans of the Edmonton Oilers to have mixed feelings about Ovechkin taking a record from a player who was thought to stand alone forever.
Gretzky can take solace in the fact that his points and assists records will never be broken.
Given the classy reaction from Gretzky himself, it does look like poor sportsmanship from the organization not to congratulate Ovechkin on a historic moment. The organization should be better than this.
