The Edmonton Oilers are sorely in need of a goaltender, which has led to some connection to former Flyers goaltender Carter Hart.
Oilers insider addresses team's interest level in approaching Carter Hart
According to a new update from insider Jason Gregor tonight, the Edmonton Oilers have absolutely no interest in signing Carter Hart - regardless of the trial verdict.
I've talked to Carter a couple of times, and I think he's - I was really impressed the time I met him. This is a tough case, this one you're talking about. It's going to get ruled by a judge, not by a jury.
I'm going to tell you right now, I will be stunned if there's not supplemental discipline from the National Hockey League, regardless of what the courts say. And so I don't think that's a path you can go down this year. Read between the lines of what I'm saying.
Okay? There's people that believe the players are getting suspended regardless of if they're sentencing or not.

It makes sense that some would connect the Oilers to signing Hart, given his ability, the team's need, and the fact that he's an Edmonton local.
However, signing him would be an incredibly controversial decision that would alienate their fans, possibly disrupt the locker room, and distract from the success of the team.
Having absolutely no interest in Carter Hart is a reassuring report from the Edmonton Oilers. Instead, hopefully they get creative with finding an under the radar goaltender, or pulling off a trade for an established starter.
