The Edmonton Oilers are currently in search of an elite goaltender, leading fans to wonder about the status of Flyers goalie Carter Hart.

Hart is among 5 former Canadian World Juniors players currently on trial for an alleged assault that took place in 2018, in London, Ontario. All of the accused have plead not guilty, and the case is currently awaiting the judge's final verdict.

Oilers insider Bob Stauffer addresses chance of signing goalie Carter Hart

Hart officially became an unrestricted free agent last offseason, and hasn't been signed by any team with his ongoing involvement in the trial.
Some Oilers fans have wondered if the team may be desperate enough to consider signing Carter Hart - but Oilers insider Bob Stauffer says there's no chance, and Hart's NHL future is in question entirely.
«I've talked to Carter a couple of times, and I think he's - I was really impressed the time I met him. This is a tough case, this one you're talking about. It's going to get ruled by a judge, not by a jury.

I'm going to tell you right now, I will be stunned if there's not supplemental discipline from the National Hockey League, regardless of what the courts say. And so I don't think that's a path you can go down this year. Read between the lines of what I'm saying.

Okay? There's people that believe the players are getting suspended regardless of if they're sentencing or not.

- Bob Stauffer

Given the fact that the Oilers are so desperate for goaltending and Hart is an elite goaltender from Edmonton, questions of adding the former Flyers goalie were bound to pop up. He's 26 years old with 227 NHL games played, with a career .906 save percentage.
The NHL suspending Hart and the 4 other players from the league indefinitely would immediately answer the question, but it should not even be considered. The testimony presented in trial so far has been shocking and gruesome. It's not a quality addition for the locker room, and would be hard for many fans.
If he's found guilty, or suspended by the NHL though, it will end any fan questions in the future about adding Hart.
